A Practical Approach to Perfume Making

Ready to dive in but feeling a bit overwhelmed? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Here’s a simple recipe framework to help you get started:

DIY Floral Perfume:

• Total Volume: 30ml

• Essential Oils: 6ml (20%) – Choose floral favourites like rose or jasmine.

• Carrier Oil: 24ml – Jojoba oil works beautifully here!

Citrus Freshness:

• Total Volume: 50ml

• Essential Oils: 5ml (10%) – Mix zesty lemon and sweet orange.

• Carrier Oil: 45ml – Light coconut oil is perfect for this blend!

The Golden Rules of Dilution

Now that we’ve got the basics down, let’s talk dilution. Here are some golden rules to follow when working with essential oils:

1. Start Small: If you're new to blending, begin with a low dilution ratio (1-2%). This gives you the chance to gauge how your skin reacts without risking irritation.

2. Be Mindful of Sensitivity: Some oils are stronger and can be irritating, like cinnamon or clove. For these oils, keep the dilution ratios lower (around 1%).

3. Aim for Balance: Crafting the perfect perfume is all about balancing top, middle, and base notes. Be mindful of how each oil interacts, and avoid overdoing one note, as it could overpower the others.

Remember, the beauty of perfume-making is in the experimentation! Feel free to tweak the ratios and test your creations until the scent feels just right.
